Our Approach

Building on our belief that all behaviour is communication, at Blossom Behaviour Services we extend this philosophy in our approach to services. We recognize the importance of developmental milestones, from toilet training to learning to ride a bike; however, our approach is grounded in the belief that each child develops at their own pace, and we prioritize supporting their unique developmental journey by providing personalized support, encouragement, and assistance throughout their learning and growth.

The commitment is reflected in our dedication to individualized support, a collaborative approach, family involvement, evidence-based practices, presuming competence, utilizing a strengths-based approach, promoting autonomy, and respecting all communication styles.

Individualized Support

Every person is unique, and so are their needs. We begin with a comprehensive assessment to understand an individual’s strengths, challenges, and specific goals. This helps us create a personalized plan for intervention that addresses the individual’s unique challenges and incorporates their strengths.

Collaborative Approach

Collaboration is key to achieving the best outcomes. We work closely with other professionals involved in a learner’s care, including but not limited to, teachers, speech language pathologists (SLP), occupational therapist (OT), physical therapists (PT), counsellors and psychologists to ensure a cohesive and holistic approach to intervention.

Family Involvement

We believe that family plays an integral role in the success of our interventions. We like to actively involve parents and caregivers in the intervention process, providing them with the necessary tools and strategies to support their learners progress at home and in the community.

Evidence-Based Practices

Our services are grounded in the latest research and best practices in the field. We are continually learning new methods based on new research findings to ensure our learners receive the most effective and scientifically-validated interventions

Presume Competence

We recognize and respect the inherent abilities and potential of all learners, regardless of neurodevelopmental differences. Rather than focusing on deficits or limitations, we assume that each person is capable of learning, growing, and contributing in meaningful ways. By presuming competence, we affirm the value and dignity of neurodiverse individuals, promoting a more inclusive approach to intervention that recognizes the unique contributions of everyone.

Strengths-Based Approach

When creating intervention plans and programs, we rely on the strengths, interests and passions of our learners. By building upon what a learner already excels at or enjoys, we can foster motivation and engagement in the learning process.

Promote Autonomy

We believe that all learners deserve the right to self-determination and independence. We encourage our learners to participate in decision-making, problem-solving, and self-advocacy skills throughout their intervention journey. By creating a supportive environment that provides opportunities for learners to express their preferences, set goals, and take responsibility for their actions, we help build confidence and competence.

Respect All Communication Styles

At Blossom Behaviour Services, we passionately believe that all behaviour is communication. All communication is meaningful, and we acknowledge that there are many ways to communicate beyond spoken language. We support and encourage our learners to express themselves in their own way, whether that is through vocalizing, gestures, written language, augmentative and alternative communication devices, or a combination of these methods.
